PREVENTIING and ADDRESSING RACISM in SCHOOLS POLICY

Meadows Primary School is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment where racism is not tolerated. Racism harms students’ mental health, learning and sense of belonging. We celebrate the diversity of cultures, ethnicities and faiths of all our students. It is up to all of us at Meadows Primary School to make our school a place that is free of racism and where everyone feels respected and can learn in a safe and inclusive environment.

Report racism or religious discrimination in schools.

Meadows Primary School's Commitment to Child Safe

Ministerial Order No. 1359 outlines the guidelines for applying the Child Safe Standards in Victorian schools. These 11 Standards work together to establish the essential strategies and measures schools must adopt to foster a strong culture of child safety. While Standard 1 is specific to Victoria, Standards 2 through 11 are consistent with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, which were developed following the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse.

The Child Safe Standards are based on the understanding that all children can be at risk and aim to support organisational cultures where child protection and abuse prevention are integrated into everyday practices.

The purpose of the Standards is to build environments where children can participate freely and confidently in community life, with the support and protection they need. At Meadows Primary School, we prioritise the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every child. Our goal is to ensure all students feel secure, valued, and respected.

We are dedicated to upholding our duty of care and fully implementing the Child Safe Standards to provide the highest level of protection for all children in our school community.

Implementation of Child Safety Practices

Policies and procedures that document how schools are safe for children, young people and students.

Ministerial Order No. 1359 establishes the foundation for schools to meet their child safety obligations.

As we implement the Child Safe Standards, we remain attentive to the diverse backgrounds and needs of our students and school community. Each standard is underpinned by key inclusion principles, which guide our approach to ensuring safety for all children, including:

  • Supporting the cultural safety and inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children

  • Valuing and protecting children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including those in vulnerable situations

  • Ensuring the safety and inclusion of children with disabilities
