Student wellbeing and strengthening community wellbeing is a whole-school priority at Meadows Primary School; critical to achieving positive outcomes in learning and life.
Meadows Primary School has a trauma informed approach to teaching and learning with all staff receiving training in the Berry Street Education Model.
Meadows Primary School is a School Wide Positive Behaviours Supports (SWPBS) school with a high emphasis on teaching expected behaviours alongside all academic needs.
Meadows Primary School Expected Behaviours
We recognise student's efforts to uphold the Meadows values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience as demonstrated in the Meadows Expected Behaviours.
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships
We incorporate the evidence-based lesson from the 'Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)’. Some of the learning materials cover eight topics of Social and Emotional Learning across all levels of primary and secondary education: Emotional Literacy; Personal Strengths; Positive Coping; Problem Solving; Stress Management; Help Seeking; Gender and Identity; and Positive Gender Relationships.
Berry Street Education Model
We follow the Berry Street Education Model, which provides strategies that enables teachers to increase engagement of students with complex, unmet learning needs and to successfully improve all students’ self-regulation, relationships, wellbeing, growth and academic achievement
Social Emotional Supports
Meadow's students have access to a range of social supports facilitated by our Wellbeing team. This includes an Engagement and Wellbeing Assistant Principal, a Wellbeing Leading Teacher, a Wellbeing Learning Specialist, a full time Social Worker and a School Chaplain.
Partnerships
Meadows Primary School works with various external organisations to support the wellbeing of all students.
Banksia Gardens Community Service provides our staff with access to the resources provided from the ‘Northern Centre for Excellence in School Engagement’ as well as their ‘Project Real’ program.
Mahana Culture is supporting Meadows Primary School's professional learning journey towards cultural responsive practice.
